Performing Umrah is a significant pilgrimage in Islam, and it involves a set of rituals that are distinct from the Hajj. Here is a general guide on how to perform Umrah:
Niyyah (Intention): Before starting any religious act, it is essential to have a sincere intention. Make the intention in your heart that you are performing Umrah solely for the sake of Allah.
Ihram: The state of Ihram is a sacred state that pilgrims enter before performing Umrah. Men wear two white, seamless sheets of cloth, while women wear their regular modest clothing. The Ihram attire symbolizes simplicity and equality.
Tawaf al-Qudum (Arrival Tawaf): Upon reaching the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, perform Tawaf al-Qudum, which is a seven-round circumambulation around the Kaaba. This is also known as the Tawaf of arrival.
Sa'i: After Tawaf al-Qudum, perform Sa'i, which involves walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah. This ritual commemorates the actions of Hagar, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), as she searched for water for her son Isma'il.
Tahallul: After completing Sa'i, men are required to shave their heads or trim their hair, while women are required to cut a small portion of their hair. This act symbolizes humility and purification.
Tawaf al-Umrah: Now, return to the Kaaba and perform Tawaf al-Umrah, another seven rounds of circumambulation.
Prayer at Maqam Ibrahim: After Tawaf al-Umrah, offer two Rak'ahs of prayer behind the Maqam Ibrahim (Station of Ibrahim), if possible.
Supplications and Dua: Take this opportunity to make personal supplications and ask for forgiveness, guidance, and blessings for yourself and your loved ones.
Tahallul Again: Complete the Umrah rituals by performing Tahallul once more. This involves shaving or trimming the hair.
It's important to note that Umrah can be performed at any time of the year and is not limited to the Hajj season. Pilgrims are encouraged to maintain a state of spiritual awareness and mindfulness throughout the journey.
Please consult with a knowledgeable Islamic scholar or guide for detailed and up-to-date information on performing Umrah, as the process may vary slightly based on individual circumstances and changes in regulations. Additionally, be aware of any recent updates or changes in procedures from relevant authorities.
